RIFF RAFF
Editor & Graphic designer: Emily Russell
In 2009, I founded RIFF RAFF, a community-driven arts publication based in Hamilton. As both editor and designer, I led the magazine for five years, producing biannual issues that highlighted the creative energy and innovation emerging from our local community.
RIFF RAFF was created to celebrate the achievements of artists, makers, thinkers, and doers and those pursuing inventive, experimental, and often under-represented creative practices. Through thoughtful editorial curation and visual design, the publication provided a platform that amplified diverse voices and fostered visibility for multidisciplinary arts across Aotearoa.
Over its five-year run, RIFF RAFF launched new issues both locally and internationally, building a readership that extended well beyond its home city. The publication, and often an exhibition of the work became a touchpoint for connection within the creative community and a showcase of the dynamic talent thriving in Hamilton.
